While adhesion at the interface of bilayer tablets is crucial for their design, characterizing this adhesion between layers poses challenges. In response to this, a novel test, easily implemented, has been proposed for the characterization of bilayer tablet interfaces. This study serves as a proof-of-concept exploration to assess the reliability of the new test concerning the impact of critical process parameters (e.g., compaction pressure applied to each layer) and material attributes (e.g., elasticity of the layered materials) on the interfacial adhesion of bilayer tablets. Employing a design of experiment approach, the results obtained align well with those from other tests, affirming the potential of this method for measuring the interfacial adhesion of bilayer tablets.
